Chipsafer developed a global patented IoT platform that uses sensors equipped with GPS receivers to track the position of the cattle, and determine the health of each exact animal using proprietary algorithms. With Chipsafer the farmer can know where the animals are and receive warnings if an anomaly is detected or if an animal trespasses a specified perimeter, which enables the detection of diseases on time and combats cattle theft. Furthermore, by knowing the location of the animals at all times it can be proved that the animals are not being raised in protected areas, such as the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. The aim is that through the information provided by Chipsafer the farmer will be able to increase the production without generating a negative impact in the environment. Chipsafer is so innovative that patents were filled in different countries and in 2016 the patent was granted in the USA. In 2013 the World Intellectual Property Organization granted the founder of Chipsafer the Best Young Inventor Award and in 2014 the Inter-American Development Bank selected Chipsafer as the Most Innovative Startup and the one with the Biggest Potential of Impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2015 Chipsafer was the winner of the Chivas Regal global competition, The Venture. Chipsafer has already deployed pilots with paying customers in Namibia, Kenya, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Brazil, and Uruguay, and will start a pilot in Australia in September.
